LinkedIn MCP Server: What It Is and How to Use One (2026)

Short answer: a LinkedIn MCP server gives an AI assistant, such as Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, a set of LinkedIn tools. You add the server to your AI app once. Then you ask in plain language, for example to read a profile, search for people, answer a message or publish a post, and the assistant calls the tools. LinkedIn's own MCP server in Claude, LinkedIn Hiring Pro, drafts and posts one free job. Third-party servers, such as LinkMCP, read profiles, search people and work in your inbox through your own LinkedIn account.

We make LinkMCP, one of the options. LinkMCP is an independent product and is not affiliated with LinkedIn or with the other companies on this page. We use their names only to identify their products. The facts about other products come from their own pages or their listings in Claude's connector directory, checked on 2026-10-29. The sources are at the end of this page.

What is a LinkedIn MCP server?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard for connecting AI apps to other systems. Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and VS Code are among the apps that support it.

A LinkedIn MCP server uses MCP to give your assistant tools for LinkedIn, each for one task, such as "read a profile" or "send a message". The AI model picks the tools from what you ask and calls them. For example, you paste a profile link and ask "What do we have in common?", and the assistant calls the profile tool and answers from what it gets back.

Is there an official LinkedIn MCP server?

Yes. LinkedIn Hiring Pro is made by LinkedIn and is in Claude's connector directory, added in October 2026. Its listing says that it helps eligible LinkedIn members draft and post one free job from Claude. LinkedIn opens a review of the complete job, and nothing is posted until you select Agree and post.

The listing also names what it does not do: "It does not create paid or promoted jobs, edit or close existing jobs, or manage applicants."

Other LinkedIn data is not open to every app. LinkedIn's open permissions let any app post, comment and like for a member, and read the member's own name, headline, photo and email address. Other permissions, for example for Sales Navigator or advertising data, need LinkedIn's approval.

What can you do with a LinkedIn MCP server?

That depends on the server. With LinkMCP, for example, your assistant can:

  • read profiles, companies and posts
  • search people by keywords, location and industry, and search Sales Navigator with your own seat
  • read your inbox and send messages
  • send connection requests and answer the ones you get
  • publish posts and comments, as yourself or as a company page that you administer
  • find work emails

Two prompts to try:

Read this LinkedIn profile and tell me what we have in common: [profile link]

List my unread LinkedIn messages and draft a short reply to each. Do not send them yet.

What kinds of LinkedIn MCP server are there?

What a server can do depends on how it reaches LinkedIn. These are the six kinds, with examples that we checked on 2026-10-29.

How do you add a LinkedIn MCP server to Claude or ChatGPT?

You add the server's URL to your AI app once and sign in. With LinkMCP:

  1. Copy the server URL:
    https://app.linkmcp.io/api/mcp?ref=guide-linkedin-mcp
  2. Add it in your AI app. The place is different in each app, and our guides have the steps for Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, Gemini, Grok and n8n. For other apps, see Install LinkMCP in any AI client.
  3. Sign in to LinkMCP when the app asks. Most AI apps open a browser window for it, with no key to paste. A new account starts a 7-day free trial, and you do not need a card.
  4. To let the assistant work with your own LinkedIn account (people search, messages, posting, Sales Navigator), choose a plan. Then connect LinkedIn once in the LinkMCP web app.

Do you need Sales Navigator for a LinkedIn MCP server?

Not for LinkMCP. People search, profiles, messages, connection requests and posts work with a normal LinkedIn account. Only Sales Navigator features need your own Sales Navigator seat: Sales Navigator search, the Sales Navigator inbox and Sales Navigator InMail. Every paid plan includes them. More: LinkedIn Sales Navigator MCP for Claude and ChatGPT.

Can a LinkedIn MCP server put your account at risk?

It depends on how the server reaches LinkedIn and on how much you do. LinkMCP puts daily limits and pacing on every action. The default Cautious tier allows 20 connection requests and 25 messages a day. New or quiet accounts start with a warm-up limit for connection requests, and every plan has a hard monthly usage cap.

Any third-party server that acts through your own LinkedIn account, hosted or on your computer, can put the account at risk, and high volume is where accounts most often get restricted. LinkMCP is not affiliated with LinkedIn, and it does not use an official LinkedIn partner API. As with any tool that acts on LinkedIn for you, a restriction cannot be ruled out completely; these limits keep the risk low. More detail: Will My LinkedIn Get Banned? Automation Risk, Honestly.
