How to Find Prospects on LinkedIn by Job Title and Company with Claude or ChatGPT

Short answer: add a LinkedIn MCP server, such as LinkMCP, to Claude or ChatGPT, and connect your LinkedIn account to it. Then describe the people you want to reach. The assistant searches LinkedIn through your account by job title, company and region, and it reads and ranks the best matches. It also finds their work emails and drafts connection requests for you to approve.

Search and connection requests go through your own LinkedIn account, so they need a paid LinkMCP plan. In the free trial, you can test the rest of the job with profile links that you paste.

We make LinkMCP.

Each search result has the name, the headline, the location, the profile URL and the network distance.

Step by step

  1. Add LinkMCP to your AI app. Claude: Is there a LinkedIn connector for Claude?. ChatGPT: How to Connect ChatGPT to LinkedIn.
  2. Choose a LinkMCP plan and connect your LinkedIn account once in the LinkMCP web app. Searches and connection requests go through your own account.
  3. Describe the people: the job titles, the companies or the kind of company, the region, and what rules a person out. The assistant runs linkedin_search_people. To filter by current company, set the filter on LinkedIn's own search page, copy the URL of the results and paste it. The assistant runs that search. With a Sales Navigator subscription, ask for Sales Navigator, and the assistant runs linkedin_search_sales_navigator.
  4. Ask the assistant to read the best matches in full and rank them. It reads up to 10 profiles in one call with linkedin_bulk_get_profiles, and the companies with linkedin_bulk_get_companies.
  5. Find a way in. The assistant lists mutual connections with linkedin_get_shared_connections, or finds a work email with find_email.
  6. Approve every connection request. The assistant drafts a note of up to 300 characters for each person. Claude asks for your permission before a tool that sends; ChatGPT may ask, depending on its settings. So say "Do not send anything" until you have read the drafts, and then tell the assistant which requests to send.

Use LinkMCP to search LinkedIn for [job titles] at [companies or kind of company] in [region]. Show 2nd-degree connections first. Read the 10 best matches, rate each for fit with one reason, and find work emails for the top 5. Then draft a connection note under 300 characters for each of the top 5. Show me everything in one table. Do not send anything.

If the assistant answers without LinkedIn data, name the tool in your prompt, for example: "Use the LinkMCP tool linkedin_search_people."

What happened when we ran it

We ran this prompt on 2026-10-23 in Claude Code (Claude Sonnet 5.5). We asked for heads of sales or VPs of sales at B2B software companies in Germany.

  • The assistant turned the request into a linkedin_search_people call with keywords for the two titles, the location Germany, the industry "Software Development" and 2nd-degree connections.
  • We ran that same call through a LinkedIn account that is connected to LinkMCP. It returned 10 people in 2.8 seconds, all 2nd-degree connections, and a cursor for the next page.
  • 7 of the 10 headlines named a sales leadership title (head of sales, VP of sales, sales director or the German equivalent), and 9 mentioned sales. 8 of the 10 locations named Germany.
  • With profile links pasted instead of a search, as you can in the trial, the assistant read 3 profiles and their companies and rated each one. It found 3 work emails, all with the status "valid", and drafted 3 notes of 187 to 235 characters. It sent nothing.

Free trial and paid plans

  • Needs a paid plan with your LinkedIn account connected: people search, Sales Navigator search, mutual connections and connection requests. Sales Navigator search also needs your own Sales Navigator subscription.
  • Works in the free trial: reading profiles and companies from their links, and finding and checking work emails. Paste the links of people you found yourself, and the assistant does the rest of the job.
  • If you ask for a search in the trial, LinkMCP says that the trial cannot connect LinkedIn and links to the plans. It also names the lookups that work in the trial.

Limits and account risk

  • Every search goes through your LinkedIn account. Searches (people, Sales Navigator and jobs together) have a base limit of 300 a day, and the default Cautious tier allows a quarter of that. Searches wait at least 5 seconds between calls, with at most 3 a minute.
  • In the default Cautious tier, you can send 20 connection requests a day, at least 30 seconds apart. A new or quiet account starts at 15 connection requests a day. Each active day adds 5, up to the limit of your tier.
  • LinkMCP is not a campaign tool. It does not send sequences. Each request is one that you make in the chat.

Any automated use of LinkedIn can put an account at risk, and no tool can promise that LinkedIn will not restrict an account. High volumes and robotic timing are common triggers. The limits lower the risk. They do not remove it. More in our guide on LinkedIn automation risk. All limits are on our security page.

Where other tools fit better

  • Sales Navigator lead lists and account lists. LinkMCP does not read or change them. Use a saved search URL instead.
  • High volume. For outreach to hundreds of people a week, LinkMCP's daily limits are too low on purpose. Why an MCP server does a different job from bulk-outreach tools: LinkedIn MCP vs Expandi, PhantomBuster & Dripify.

LinkMCP fits when you want to search, read and write in the AI app that you already use, with your own LinkedIn account.

FAQ

Can Claude or ChatGPT search LinkedIn for prospects?
Not on their own. LinkedIn search needs a signed-in account, and the assistants cannot sign in to LinkedIn. With a LinkedIn MCP server such as LinkMCP, the assistant runs the search through your own LinkedIn account and reads the profiles that it finds.

Can it search by company?
Yes. Name the companies or the kind of company in your request. For LinkedIn's "Current company" filter, set it on LinkedIn's search page, copy the URL of the results and paste it. The assistant runs that search through your account.

Does it send connection requests without my approval?
LinkMCP sends a request only when the assistant calls the send tool in your chat. Claude asks for your permission before such a tool runs, and ChatGPT may ask, depending on its settings. Ask for drafts first, and send only the ones that you approve.

Is this against LinkedIn's rules?
LinkedIn's User Agreement limits automated access to LinkedIn. Any tool that acts on your account is automated use, and it can put the account at risk. LinkMCP is not affiliated with LinkedIn. It keeps searches and requests inside daily limits, with a gap between actions.

Do I need Sales Navigator?
No. linkedin_search_people uses the classic LinkedIn search. Sales Navigator adds filters such as seniority, job function and total years of work experience, and richer results.
