LinkedIn Limits 2026: Invitations, Messages, Posts and Characters

Short answer: LinkedIn limits how many connection requests you can send, but it does not publish the number. About 100 a week is commonly reported. LinkedIn does publish some character limits: a connection note can have 200 characters on a free account and 300 on Premium. An InMail can have 200 in the subject and 2,000 in the body, and a post 3,000.

Last checked: 2026-10-29, on LinkedIn's Help Center. Where LinkedIn gives no number, we say so. A number marked "commonly reported" comes from other sources, listed at the end.

We make LinkMCP, a LinkedIn MCP server for AI assistants. LinkMCP is not affiliated with LinkedIn.

What is LinkedIn's weekly invitation limit?

LinkedIn does not publish the number. Its Help Center says only that invitation limits "are in place to prevent misuse and promote thoughtful networking". About 100 connection requests a week is commonly reported.

  • The limits apply to free and Premium accounts.
  • When you reach the limit, LinkedIn can stop your account from sending invitations. LinkedIn says that this typically lasts one week. While you are restricted, you cannot buy more invitations, and LinkedIn cannot shorten the wait.
  • LinkedIn says that the most common reason for this restriction is "sending too many invitations to people you don't know". It asks members to invite only people they know and who know them.
  • The limits for requests with a note are separate from the limits for requests without a note.
  • You can have up to 30,000 1st-degree connections.
  • After you withdraw an invitation, you cannot invite the same person again for up to three weeks.

How long can a connection request note be?

200 characters on a free account and 300 characters on Premium, says LinkedIn's Help Center.

  • A free account can add a note to only a few requests each month. LinkedIn's page on notes says three a month. Two older Help pages say five.
  • Premium members can add a note to every request. The invitation limits still apply.

How many messages and InMails can you send?

LinkedIn publishes no daily number for messages to your connections. Its Help Center gives no character limit for them either. 8,000 characters per message is commonly reported.

  • A free account can send messages directly only to its 1st-degree connections. To write to other members, you usually need InMail, and InMail needs a paid plan.
  • A group chat can have up to 50 members.
  • An InMail can have 200 characters in the subject line and 2,000 in the body. In Sales Navigator, the body can have 1,900 characters, and a signature of up to 150 characters counts toward them.
  • Paid plans get InMail credits every month: Premium Career 5, Premium Business 15, Sales Navigator Core 50 and Recruiter Lite 30. The most you can keep is 15, 45, 150 and 120 credits, in the same order.
  • You get a credit back when the person accepts, declines or replies within 90 days. Credits expire after 90 days, and you cannot buy more.

Is there a limit on searches and profile views?

Yes, on free accounts: LinkedIn's commercial use limit. LinkedIn gives no number for it and cannot show how many searches you have left, but it shows a warning when you get near the limit.

  • It counts profile searches, and browsing profiles from "People Also Viewed" and from the People tab of LinkedIn Pages.
  • It does not count a search by name in the search box at the top of the page, browsing your 1st-degree connections, or job searches.
  • It starts again at midnight PST on the 1st of each calendar month. LinkedIn says that Premium Business, Sales Navigator and Recruiter Lite raise it.
  • LinkedIn's Help Center gives no daily number for profile views.

How long can a post, comment, headline or About section be?

A post can have up to 3,000 characters, and an article up to 125,000. LinkedIn may also limit how many posts a member or a LinkedIn Page can make in a period of time. It gives no number.

LinkedIn's Help Center gives 1,250 characters for comments in groups, and no character limit for the headline or the About section. Commonly reported: 1,250 characters for any comment, 220 for the headline and 2,600 for the About section.

LinkedIn character counter

Paste or type your text. The counter shows how many characters it has and whether it fits each LinkedIn limit. It runs in your browser. Your text is not sent anywhere, and you do not need an account.

Spaces and line breaks count. Some emoji count as 2 characters. LinkedIn can count some characters differently, so leave a small margin.

What limits does LinkMCP add to protect your account?

LinkMCP connects your AI assistant, such as Claude or ChatGPT, to your own LinkedIn account. Claude asks for your permission before a tool that sends, and ChatGPT may ask, depending on its settings. Ask the assistant to show you each draft first, and send only the ones that you approve. LinkMCP is not a campaign tool, and it does not send sequences.

Every action through your account has daily limits and pacing, on top of LinkedIn's own limits. All plans start on the Cautious tier. On Cautious:

  • Connection requests: 20 a day and 60 in any 7 days, at least 30 seconds apart.
  • A new or quiet account starts at 15 connection requests a day. Each active day adds 5, up to the limit of your tier.
  • Messages: 25 a day, at least 20 seconds apart.
  • InMail: 10 a day, at least 60 seconds apart.
  • Searches (people, Sales Navigator and jobs together): 75 a day, at least 5 seconds apart, at most 3 a minute.
  • Posts: 12 a day, at least 60 seconds apart.
  • Comments and reactions: 25 a day each, at least 20 seconds apart.
  • Everything together: at most 125 actions a day and 15 a minute. Inbox reads do not count toward the 125.

Daily limits start again at 00:00 UTC.

LinkMCP counts only the actions that go through LinkMCP. Invitations or messages that you send on LinkedIn yourself, or with another tool, are not in these numbers.

When LinkedIn refuses a connection request because your account reached one of LinkedIn's limits, LinkMCP sends no more connection requests from your account until 00:00 UTC. After such a refusal of a message, an InMail, a comment, a reaction or a post, it pauses that action for at least 10 minutes.

Before it sends, LinkMCP checks the length: up to 300 characters for a connection note (the Premium limit), 3,000 for a post and 1,250 for a comment. When LinkedIn refuses a request, LinkMCP reports the refusal to the assistant and does not send the request again.

Profile lookups and email lookups do not use your LinkedIn account.

On Pro and higher plans, you can choose a higher tier in the dashboard. Higher tiers allow more actions, with more risk. All tiers and limits are on our security page.

As with any tool that acts on LinkedIn for you, a restriction cannot be ruled out completely; these limits keep the risk low.
